This was a project for an historic 1920's apartment building in Seattle.

The lobby letter-boxes were in a sad state of repair. Many of the individual door locks didn't work and many had broken glass windows.

The tenant's association wanted the bronze doors, locks and glass repaired, but they could only give me a 3 day window to get it done.

During that time the mail would be held at the post office for all the tenants.

A fun bit of trivia; the interior of mail boxes like this is under federal jurisdiction, so we had to have the mailman open his master lock that unlocked the entire front panel. That allowed us to remove the entire panel door as a unit and take it to the shop, but the lock in the panel door is US Postal property. Kind of made me nervous, but it all worked out.

We made a new bronze outer frame, with new hinges, fixed all the locks, and the tiny glass windows. Another fun bit was getting all the individual mail box door keys from all the tenants so we could work on them.

Everybody was quite happy with the results even if it was a bit hurried and stressful.
